On 22 – 24 March 2023, Dr. Rubin will be presenting at the annual Canadian Network on Information and Security (CANIS) conference at the University of Calgary, Banff, Alberta. This conference is on Misinformation: Impact and Challenges in a Diverse Society. It will bring together a multidisciplinary network of political, military, cognitive, behavioural, technological, and legal experts.
Dr. Rubin will be panellist on the Technological Panel (facilitated by Dr. Laleh Behjat).
Panel Description: The digital revolution and the increasing digitization in our society means that we can design intelligent solution and products to improve people’s lives. However, there are potential risks with the AI powered technologies especially in the areas of national defence and security. The data collection, manipulation and protection are important issues in our modern diverse society. In this panel we look at technologies related to data gathering and dissemination, how mishandling data can threaten our lives, and how to ensure ethical principles are applied when building data entered security systems.”
The trip was carefully pre-planned and scheduled to fit around FIMS classes. Dr. Rubin’s Friday March 24th office hours will be held on Tuesday, March 28th upon her return to London. Note no other interruptions to the Winter 2023 course schedule is currently foreseen.
