On 2 December 2022, Sodiq Onaopalo guest lectured in Dr. Rubin’s LIS9002: “Information Organization, Curation & Access” class. His talk was entitled “Semantic Web, Big Data, & Linked Data” and he spoke to the class about the latest developments in the library automation and how they might impact the profession of metadata specialists and librarians, more broadly.
Brief Academic Biography:
Sodiq Onaopalo (pronounced /Honour-lap-or/) is a LIS Doctoral Candidate at FIMS, Western, and a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Fall 2022 LIS9002: “Information Organization, Curation & Access” course. Sodiq obtained his undergraduate and Masters degrees in Library, Archival, and Information Studies with distinctions from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He has over three years of work experience as a Researcher/Librarian at the Financial Institution Training Center (FITC), Nigeria. During his LIS programs at the University of Ibadan, he took courses on Cataloguing and Classification, Indexing and Abstracting, among others. His research interests include scholarly communication, mobile learning, and the application of ICT in libraries, and he has co-authored research articles in peer-reviewed journals.
The talk was informative, well-paced, and to the point. Sodiq received a round of applause from the audience and Dr. Rubin’s appreciation for venturing into this topic in much detail.
