If you are on Western University campus on 5 December 2023, come join us any time between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the FIMS Graduate Library for a student-poster session! Note that we moved the session part way into the lunch break between classes, so that once your morning class is over, you can still stop by! We will have some quiet ethnically-diverse music in the background and some sweets to share. Just stop by for a few minutes and be an audience for your peers!
Our FIMS graduate students in the Fall 2023 MLIS9733: Multilingual Information Access course will be presenting on a dozen of geo-linguistic situations around the world: from the basics of the languages spoken in each of the chosen countries to the intricacies of language policies, geo-political and social pressures of the past and present, and multi-lingual information provision and access to serve these multi-lingual communities within these countries as well as in the diasporas.
We will have a few easy-and-satisfying puzzles to solve: countries’ flags, maps, music, and some other visuals to direct you to the exact poster you want to see. Or just look around and absorb! Would you be able to recognize the origins of the music you happen to hear? What language is it in?
